NYNAME members now allowed to enter NYPA contest
December 2, 2016
Members of the New York Newspapers Advertising & Marketing Executives (NYNAME) are now welcome to submit entries in the advertising categories of the New York Press Association’s (NYPA) 2016 Better Newspaper Contest.
Previously, NYPA’s contest was only open to that organization’s members, while NYNAME sponsored its own annual advertising contest. With input from NYNAME and the New York News Publishers Association (NYNPA), the NYPA contest now features several new advertising categories and additional divisions for daily newspapers.
The newly improved contest highlights the continued collaboration between all three organizations, which are currently working together, along with the Free Community Papers of New York (FCPNY), to put on a joint newspaper convention in 2017.
Although NYPA’s contest recognizes excellence in all aspects of newspapering, NYNAME members are only permitted to submit entries in select categories related to advertising. Newspapers that are members of both organizations are permitted to enter all categories.
The contest features a total of 20 advertising-related categories, several of which have been imported from NYNAME’s 2016 competition. Newspapers may submit as many entries as they wish at a cost of $11 per entry.
The deadline to enter the contest is Tuesday, January 10, 2017 at 5 p.m. Entries are collected online, with select categories requiring mailed physical tearsheets, as well.
To set up an online account, download the official contest rules and start submitting entries, please visit https://contest.nynewspapers.com/.
Those with questions about the contest website should contact Jill Van Dusen at NYPA email@example.com or 518-464-6483 ext. 25. For questions about contest rules or NYNAME, please contact Don Ferlazzo at NYNPA at 518-449-1667 ext. 700 or firstname.lastname@example.org.

NYNAME offers training outside of the Annual Conference from time to time. Check back here for information regarding future trainings soon!
NYNAME can trace its roots back to 1922 when the Advertising Managers Bureau of the New York State Dailies was formed. This was one year after the founding of the New York State Publishers Association. For sixty-three years, the New York State Dailies Advertising Managers Bureau as it was known, held yearly meetings, training sessions, and an annual conference. Like all organizations that evolve and grow, so too did the Advertising Managers Bureau. On June 6, 1985, at the annual Spring Conference, the membership voted to change the name to the New York Newspaper Advertising and Marketing Executives Association. On October 8, 1985, NYNAME became an official incorporated not for profit in the state of New York.
The mission of NYNAME encompasses all aspects of newspaper advertising including the training and professional development of newspaper advertising personnel, and to advance newspaper advertising to business community.
